Elie Saab Introduces Denim to Haute Couture Collection

Elie Saab guaranteed denim’s place on the red carpet with a Spring 2025 haute couture collection that combines house signatures with the universal fabric.

Named “Portrait of a Dream,” the collection is inspired by the romantic radiance of an Impressionist garden. Each look in the collection is designed to be “one brushstroke in a harmonious whole,” according to the show notes.

Made with vivid medium wash denim fabrics and traditional wheat colored stitching, the five denim pieces added a cool and youthful vibe to the collection. Looks span one-shoulder and off-the-shoulder gowns to corseted tops paired with voluminous wide-leg trousers that drape like skirts. Elements like beaded fringe and 3-D denim florals demonstrate the label’s couture handiwork.

The structural indigo looks stand out against Saab’s use of frothy and gauzy chiffon and tulle. In the show notes, the denim is described as “a masterstroke of unexpected perspective” as the “the deep lapis purity of denim wraps her body like the delicate folds of a very modern rose.”

While it is the first time Saab used denim in his couture collection, the versatile fabric has been a popular novelty in haute couture for several seasons.

Valentino featured vintage Levi’s 501 XX Big E jeans in its Fall/Winter 2023-2024 haute couture collection, using the jeans as a canvas for gilded embroidery. The fabric has also been used in the haute couture collections of Balmain, Balenciaga, Jean Paul Gaultier and Schiaparelli.
