Artistic Milliners Generates Carbon Insetting Units

Artistic Milliners is taking another step to reduce its Scope 3 emissions from the farm level.

The Karachi, Pakistan-based vertical denim manufacturer announced this week that is the first company in Asia to generate carbon insetting units in partnership with Regenagri, representing a significant shift from traditional carbon offsetting.

Artistic Milliners achieves this milestone through Milliner Cotton, a cotton farming program launched in Pakistan in 2020 that follows regenerative agricultural practices certified by Regenagri, the global regenerative agriculture framework. By working closely with local farmers to implement practices such as cover cropping, no-till farming, and crop rotation, Artistic Milliners said the initiative has successfully improved soil organic carbon levels, leading to the generation of these verifiable carbon insetting units.

Regenagri launched its carbon insetting program in January, giving farmers and growers a way to monetize sustainable practices through Regenagri certification. The initiative builds on its global certification program, which allows farms to verify and be recognized for the regenerative agricultural practices they use.

“We congratulate Artistic Milliners for becoming the first company in Asia to generate carbon insetting units as part of Regenagri’s program,” said Franco Costantini, Regenagri CEO. “These units will allow the brands they work with to reduce their Scope 3 emissions while supporting the farmers who grow their cotton to transition to regenerative agriculture. We look forward to continuing to work together to improve soil health, enhance biodiversity, and reduce the carbon footprint of their products.”

Carbon insetting requires companies to take actions within their supply chain. Instead of purchasing carbon credits from unrelated external projects, insetting involves investing in carbon reduction and removal initiatives within a company’s own supply chain. This approach provides greater transparency and traceability, ensuring that the environmental benefits are directly linked to the products being created.

Omer Ahmed, Artistic Milliners CEO, said the “transformative moment” is a testament to the company’s commitment to pioneering sustainable solutions.

“By investing in regenerative agriculture within our own supply chain, we are not just offsetting our carbon footprint; we are actively creating a more resilient and sustainable ecosystem. This allows our brand partners to invest back into the source of their products and make a tangible impact on their Scope 3 emissions,” he said.
