Advance Denim, TENCEL™ and ROICA™ Unveil Environmentally-Conscious Capsule Collection

partnership

Though skinny jeans may have stepped back for roomier styles, stretch denim still holds a special place in the hearts of fashion lovers for its unmatched comfort and versatility. Today, finding the ideal pair of jeans goes beyond just fit and style, as consumers are paying more attention to the impact of their purchases.

Answering this growing awareness, Advance Denim, Lenzing’s TENCEL™ brand and ROICA™ by Asahi Kasei have come together to create LoopTy Collection, a capsule series that beautifully blends functionality and performance with responsible fashion.1, 2

Pieces in the LoopTy Collection, debuting at Kingpins Hong Kong this November, range from lightweight to heavy fabrics and top to bottom styles. Among them are gender-neutral garments that offer a one-size-fits-all, inclusive approach to dressing.

“By blending TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers with ROICA™ V550 degradable stretch yarns2 and leveraging Advance Denim’s craftsmanship, our synergy brings a refreshing take on denim that is both fashionable and functional,” stressed Dennis Hui, global business development manager, denim at Lenzing. “This collection aims to cater to the needs of today’s eco-conscious consumers who are determined to make responsible purchases in style.”1, 2

Shared Vision for Responsible Stretch Denim

Earlier this year, Lenzing began a partnership with Asahi Kasei to create a new concept of sustainable and circularity-driven textiles1, 2, 3 by integrating the biodegradable and compostable TENCEL™ fibers4 into ROICA™ V550 degradable stretch yarns, which are designed to break down into carbon dioxide and water under controlled composting conditions.2

EU Ecolabel certified TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers,5 derived from sustainably sourced wood6 and produced using a resource-efficient closed-loop process7 with reduced environmental impact,8 lend a soft, smooth hand feel to the fabrics.9 ROICA™ V550, a key component in LoopTy Collection’s stretch denim fabrics, adds excellent elasticity and recovery while enhancing comfort.2

Hiroaki Shinohe, chief marketing officer of ROICA Europe at Asahi Kasei.

“ROICA™ V550, a world-first, Cradle to Cradle-Certified™ stretch (elastane) yarn with a Material Health Gold Level Certificate, represents a significant step forward in the development of sustainable stretch fibers,” explained Hiroaki Shinohe, chief marketing officer of ROICA Europe at Asahi Kasei. “By going hand in hand with TENCEL™ and Advance Denim, we are visualizing the incredible potential of degradable stretch yarn in creating an elevated, more sustainable wardrobe without compromising performance, hand feel and quality.”2

Incorporating ROICA™ V550 required no alterations to existing production methods, rendering the degradable stretch yarns “user-friendly” to mill partner Advance Denim. “Sustainability and performance have always been guiding principles for Advance Denim since its inception in 1987,” emphasized Amy Wang, general manager of Advance Denim. “Our latest collaborative innovation with TENCEL™ and ROICA™ on responsible comfort and performance presents an ideal growth opportunity to create next-level denim styles, empowering brands and designers to unlock endless creativity.”

Advance Denim has a long history of adopting TENCEL™ fiber innovations, being one of the first mills to use matte TENCEL™ fibers,10 and it has also adopted TENCEL™ LUXE filament yarns for premium denim.11 Advance Denim previously teamed with TENCEL™ on its Zero Cotton and Zero Virgin Cotton collections, highlighting styles that used no cotton or solely recycled cotton.

“Our previous collaborations highlighted the creation of vintage denim styles with unique softness and sustainability benefits,” added Wang. “The only missing piece of the puzzle was the stretch element, which is now fulfilled with ROICA™ V550.”

Driving Circularity, Together

The latest partnership among Advance Denim, TENCEL™ and ROICA™ extends beyond the capsule collection. It represents a broader commitment to driving positive change in the denim industry through collaborative innovation, inspiring others along the value chain and beyond to embrace more environmentally responsible practices.1 As consumers increasingly seek out fashion choices that align with their values, collaborations like this will play a crucial role in shaping the future of denim.

Discover the new LoopTy Collection at Kingpins Hong Kong on Nov. 21–22, 2024 at the Advance Denim booth No. 22 and Lenzing booth No. 24.
