Elevated essentials make up Madewell’s Fall 2023 collection.
Led by creative director Joyce Lee, the collection focuses on timeless styles that are updated with unexpected touches. “Each piece was meticulously designed to enhance your existing wardrobe and effortlessly transition you through seasons,” the brand stated.
For denim, this means an oversized button-down shirt made with a heavyweight conventional cotton and recycled cotton blend, a washed black mid-rise maxi skirt and super-wide-leg button-fly jeans.
Described as Madewell’s “cheekiest” fit, the 90s straight jean anchors the collection. The 100 percent cotton jean fits snug through the hips and thighs and has a higher back rise for a curve-enhancing lift. The staple silhouette is available in seven washes spanning vintage canvas to dark coffee.
Madewell complements the denim range with foundational pieces. The brand’s signature poplin shirt is available in a cropped version to balance this season’s wide-fit jeans. A slip dress, made with 58 percent rayon and 42 percent Lenzing Ecovero viscose, channels the simplicity of ‘90s styling. The dress is available in black and dark green as well as abstract floral and wavy stripe prints.
The brand tabs a stab at bikercore with a leather bomber jacket. The retro jacket is made with soft lambskin sourced from a tannery that achieved a Gold Rating from the Leather Working Group (LWG), an organization that works to promote sustainable practices.
Madewell’s signature Essential Tote rounds out the curated collection. The newest version, available in black, olive and warm cinnamon, is sized to hold a laptop and has a magnetic closure. A mini bucket tote is also part of the collection and can be worn as a crossbody bag.
