H&M Taps Gucci Collaborator for Collection Celebrating Disney’s 100th

H&M is celebrating Disney’s 100th anniversary with a special capsule collection designed by professional snowboarder-turned-Gucci collaborator Trevor Andrew.

Released Thursday, the streetwear-inspired line marked the latest in a long line of fashion team-ups tied to Disney’s centennial, including with Karl Lagerfeld, Vera Bradley, Tommy Hilfiger, Givenchy, Coach and Adidas.

The three-way collaboration between H&M, Disney and Andrew—also known as GucciGhost—features an all-denim look stamped with the Disney logo and a nostalgic leather bomber “with a cool edge to make it feel modern,” as well as tees and hoodies, H&M said. The collection also includes limited-edition skateboards, a first for the retailer, it noted.

“I love the denim because the logos make it very iconic,” Andrew said in a statement. “I also like the varsity jacket because it has several Disney characters on it. It’s fun to be able to put so many all in one piece.”

To celebrate the collaboration, Disney and H&M curated an art installation at one of the fast-fashion chain’s Brooklyn, N.Y., locations. The “immersive experience,” as H&M Williamsburg described it, includes an all-over Disney printed wall and a Disney-themed couch. Though Andrew designed the space to feel like his own personal studio, it also features work from local Brooklyn artists. Shoppers can visit “The Gallery” and purchase items from the Disney100 x H&M collection through Aug. 23.

Tommy Hilfiger unveiled its own collection celebrating Disney’s 100th anniversary early last month. The line, which featured classic Mickey Mouse characters drawn in manga, reimagined prep classics with playful patterns and prints. The expansive collection included 94 styles in menswear and womenswear, 42 styles in kids’ and 14 adaptive styles.

Disney is not the only company collaborating with H&M this year. In May, it teamed with Mugler to honor the vision of the Paris-based fashion house’s late founder, Manfred Thierry Mugler. The collection included limited-edition remakes of archive pieces, alongside current creative director Casey Cadwallader’s contemporary designs. Highlights included cropped jean jackets with strong shoulders, skinny and loose-fit jeans constructed with silhouette-enhancing panels, corset tops, cutout dresses and sheer bodysuits.
