Bureau Veritas, a leading testing, inspection and certification organization, recently developed a Trim Manufacturing Quality Program (TMQP) for the U.S. market. The program is designed to improve the quality and chemical control of a product, facilitating transparency and traceability.
Repeated analytical testing on the same trim components of assorted styles can often lead to testing the same component trim multiple times, increasing the cost to retailers. Failures are often found late in the production stage, when it is difficult to make changes, resulting in delayed time to market and a higher risk of recalls and non-compliance with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) demands in the U.S.
The organization hopes the TMQP will help correct these issues. As part of the program, it will move trim testing to an earlier production stage, so failures can be corrected before final production, ultimately saving time and money. The auditing of trim suppliers and vendors through Bureau Veritas’ Factory Chemical Management System assessment service will be the backbone of the new program.
Bureau Veritas VP of Americas and global key account management Lisa Bate, said, “Our TMQP addresses the requirements of the CPSC Reasonable Testing Program and supports the time-to-market, quality, safety and cost needs of the supply chain. The scheme focuses on improving supply chain quality; reducing over-testing and spend as well as finding, and correcting, failures early on.” She added, “Trim suppliers will receive an attestation that can be used with the many US buyers who support this approach. The attestation can also be used on all finished products / styles that use the same trim in endless combinations. Buyers will also benefit from a trusted supply chain, reduced risk and cost as well as enhanced quality.”
