President Bill Clinton at DNC: Democrats Are Better at Job Creation

According to former President Bill Clinton, democrats have created more jobs than Republicans.

“Do you want to build a strong economy from bottom up and the middle out?” asked the once commander in chief Wednesday night during his speech at the Democratic National Convention in support of nominee Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

“Since the end of the Cold War in 1989, America has created about 51 million new jobs—about 50 million under Democrats and 1 million under Republicans,” he said, adding that he fact-checked that number three times. “Coach Walz will tell ya, if you’re up 50 to 1, you’re winning.”

He said if anyone wanted more affordable housing, affordable health care and more financing for small businesses, as well as strengthening “our alliances and democracy around world,” they should vote for Harris. But if anyone wanted to pay tribute to the “late great” Hannibal Lecter, then Trump is your guy. That wasn’t the only swipe at the Republican candidate, former President Donald Trump, who keeps talking about the fictional serial killer and even mentioned “The Silence of the Lambs” in his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention last month.

“How does Donal Trump use his voice? Mostly to talk about himself, his vengeance, vendettas, complaints, conspiracies. The next time you hear him, don’t count the lies—count the I’s. He’s like the tenor warming up before the opera: me, me, me, me. Kamala Harris is focused on you,” the now elder statesman said.

“Kamala Harris has fought for kids that were left out and left behind. She’s taken on gangs, trafficking across the border and fought to protect the rights of homeowners,” he said of her work as California’s top prosecutor, noting that during her vice presidency, “She’s been our leader in the fight for reproductive freedom, and advanced America’s interests and values all over the world.”

Clinton emphasized that Americans have a clear choice in 2024, and that is “We the People” versus “me, myself and I,” adding that not only does he know which one he likes better for America, but also that Harris is the better choice for the job.

“Kamala Harris is the only candidate in this race with a vision, the experience, the temperament, the will, and—yes—the sheer joy to do that on good and bad days to be our voice,” Clinton said.

“Meanwhile, Donald Trump, a paragon of consistency, is still dividing, blaming, and belittling. He creates and curates chaos. It’s showmanship, but it’s not leadership,” Clinton said.

He also gave kudos to President Joe Biden, who defeated Trump four years ago when the latter sought re-election. “I’m especially proud of President Biden, who came to office during the pandemic and an economic crash. He healed us and got us back to work. He strengthened our alliances for freedom and safety.”

The Arkansas native closed out his speech with a reference from his hometown: “Take it from the Man from Hope. Kamala Harris is the woman from joy. And we will make a joyful noise on Election Day if you do your part. Thank you. God bless you and God bless America.”
