Every quarter, the world’s biggest fashion shopping platform Lyst releases a ranking of the hottest brands and products based on a holistic snapshot of consumer behavior. The Q2 2025 Lyst Index report was just unveiled, and it features a surprising item that managed to clinch the third-place spot on the hottest products list: the adidas Adicolor Classics Sprinter Short.
To be sure, this is only unexpected in the sense that a short hasn’t managed to snag a coveted place in the Lyst Index’s top five in the past three-plus quarters (usually, the trendiest shoes and designer handbags get there first). But it also makes complete sense why the Adicolor Classics Sprinter Short came out on top, as it’s been absolutely dominating sporty-chic street styles this summer. Fashion insiders continue to eagerly match the retro-inspired pick in bright colors to simple white camisoles — like the Skims Tank Top that came in second for Q2 2025, per Lyst — crew socks, and the best women’s white sneakers in the form of low-pro Three-Stripes steppers. They also like juxtaposing the short’s inherent athleticism with feminine pieces like crochet flats, charm necklaces, and boho poplin tops featuring scallop detailing.

The style has also been making waves on TikTok, with content creators constantly showing off their vast adidas Sprinter Short collections filled with multiple colorways, calling it the definitive “It girl” short of summer, captioning their clips (that double as adidas love letters) with things like “catch me avoiding demin shorts at all costs,” and serving major styling inspo. The terrace-culture, soccer-obsessed blokecore trend is still going strong in fashion, after all, and adidas is leading the pack of brands that are fueling the movement co-signed by everyone from Bella Hadid to Kim Kardashian. But the adidas track-short boom is proving you can join the club without buying a jersey.
Another reason for all the love? Just like with the wrong-shoe theory, the most fashion-forward among us are finding thrill in putting a short meant for working out in conversation with preppier finds like penny loafers, heeled mules, and blazers. It’s the ultimate high-low medley, not only when it comes to looks but also price tags (adidas’ short is an under-$30 steal).
WWD’s shopping editors are devotees of this hit product and are especially appreciative of its loose fit, airiness, and ability to mesh well with all kinds of sartorial choices. The current adidas short fascination extends to menswear, too, because men have been busy styling the Adicolor Classics Sprinter Short with muscle tanks, comfy tees, and crisp kicks (often in white, which amplifies the short’s eye-catching side stripes and adidas Trefoil embroidery). Elevated flip-flops, like The Row’s Dune Sandals (#1 on the Lyst Index list this quarter) are just as solid of a footwear pick here, granting the short a kind of beachy je ne sais quoi.
Whether you choose to roll down the elastic waistband for a flash of belly button when pairing your Adicolor Classics Sprinter Short with a crop top or prefer to keep it up all the way, using the constriction to complement a bodysuit‘s curve-skimming power, there are endless chances for creativity when you embrace the must-grab adidas bestseller that’s become an unlikely status symbol.
And while the buzzy short works best in the summer, even as a cover-up over your one-piece swimsuit, we’re predicting that it will continue having a chokehold on the fashion set long after the leaves turn. Just as the iconic, Princess Diana–popularized biker short-plus-crewneck equation starts flooding city streets again, the Adicolor Classics Sprinter Short will pop up under loose hoodies, coquettish cardigans, and striped, corp-core button-ups. Many of our favorite stars have already successfully experimented with this mashup of lengths and textures, including Harry Styles, who walked around London last month in an itty-bitty pair of red adidas shorts, a black crewneck sweater, a vintage purple cap, and slim-fit Prada sneakers. These were the Collapse Re-Nylon and Suede Sneakers in Topaz, and they appeared on the Lyst Index’s hottest products list for Q2 2025, taking 10th place. The man clearly knows what’s worth investing in.
Paul Mescal is another heartthrob who loves showing off some thigh. On multiple occasions last year, he donned adidas shorty-shorts with oversized gray tees over long-sleeve white shirts, bicep-baring tank tops, and other pieces; Mescal was also the unofficial spokesperson for the track-short silhouette by wearing ones from other brands, layered with baggy sweatshirts, track jackets, and beyond.
Want nothing more than to channel the inherent coolness of adidas short–powered ‘fits during the last month of summer and into fall? Luckily, the brand has no shortage of ongoing deals. These include discounts of up to 40 percent off on the actual Lyst Index–topping Adicolor Sprinter Short plus almost half off the Firebird Short, which has the added benefit of zip pockets for carrying your on-the-go essentials like lip glosses or wire headphones (a Mescal favorite). Also not to be overlooked are marked-down, height-happy Gazelle styles whose bold color palettes will work hand in hand with that of your short’s; slimmer Sambas for taking the throwback references one step further; and their Sambae counterparts, with a thicker gum rubber outsole for achieving an even leggier look.
The Lyst Index spoke and we listened, so here’s everything you need to add to your adidas cart before becoming the most trend-aware tastemaker you can be. Thank us later.
