It’s Barbie’s big night at the 2024 Golden Globes, and Margot Robbie is shining in a pink strappy gown by Giorgio Armani Privé. While it’s no surprise that the record-breaking leading lady is wearing the doll’s signature hue, Robbie’s kicking off the awards season red carpet with yet another nod to a vintage Barbie doll — and this one happens to be available on Amazon right now.
Robbie’s fuchsia look is a nearly exact replica of the 1977 Superstar Barbie doll, a special edition that marked the doll’s entrance into her “Superstar era” of glittering disco glamour 50 years ago. Just like Robbie’s character in Barbie, the 1977 Superstar Barbie doll was created to “dance the night away” and “paint the town pink,” according to Mattel, in silky satin paired with diamond accessories to reflect off disco balls. Not only is Robbie’s Golden Globes ensemble evoking the height of Barbie’s effervescent star power, it also references back to the sensational “Dance The Night” party scene in the film, performed by Dua Lipa, which is up for Best Original Song, as one of nine award nominations for Barbie tonight.
Robbie’s nostalgic Barbie look also takes inspiration from the Armani Privé fall 2022 runway, notably with the addition of light-catching sequins, rather than satin seen on the doll, and a bodacious, fluffy pink tulle boa that frames the look.
