It’s no secret that Free People is one of the hottest fashion brands of our time — loved (and made frequently viral on TikTok) for its boho, romantic, free-spirited aesthetic marked by flowy silhouettes, bold prints, lace details, and the kind of flared denim that was popularized in the ’70s. This week, the label decide to take a no-holds-barred approach to these sartorial references: by releasing its The Originals collection, which brings back over 140 pieces from the archive Free People cultivated between 1990 and 2012.
In other words, everything here is vintage-coded and one-of-one. To no one’s surprise, most picks are fully sold out at this point, but you can still create a flawless capsule wardrobe for fall with what’s left in stock of The Originals drop. The best part here? It just might be the fact that 100 percent of sales are matched with a donation to the National Parks Foundation (which is fitting, because these tops, dresses, and cardigans are ideal for frolicking in across a meadow at peak foliage).
The first new arrival that caught our eye was Free People’s circa-2007 The Originals Floral Print Midi Dress, which might strike you as a summery find at first but is actually just the thing to wear under a leather jacket for the early fall season. And, if you want to go all out with the Y2K nostalgia, there’s also no rule against layering the midi dress over a pair of tight black leggings. Though the brand describes this dress as “previously loved,” you can be assured of the fact that it will ship to you in great condition — after which you can start taking full advantage of the instant bestseller’s scoop neckline, figure-hugging fit, and color-happy floral print.

If you crave owning a pre-loved Free People gem that dates back to the turn of the millennium, there’s no better option than The Originals Cropped Floral Cardigan, which boasts a classic button-front style, attractive ribbing on the neckline, hem, and cuffs, as well as a cropped cut for donning with your high-waisted jeans or high-rise maxi skirts. Whether you show it off partially or completely unbuttoned — letting the white camisole underneath shine — you better believe this autumnal cardi will make all the difference in your outfits from hereon out.
Need some looser apparel for rounding out your loungewear collection (or else wearing to yin yoga classes)? Let us introduce you to the Tie-Dye Oversized Tee with its dolman-style silhouette and lived-in feel right off the bat (this time, the term isn’t just a buzzword!). So too should the Tissue Cotton Floral Long Sleeve Shirt pique your interest, considering its lightweight nature, crew neckline, and floral motifs here and there. We recommend tucking the shirt into baggy jeans threaded through with a rhinestone-clad belt — for looking straight out of an early-2000s fashion magazine.
As far as bottoms are concerned in this buzzy Free People release, there’s a lot to work with, including the Fit And Flair Eyelet Skirt, whose lace detailing will be a match made in heaven for your cowboy boots; the Mixed Media High-Waisted Maxi Skirt, with a bit more coverage and pattern play involved; the Printed Flare Jeans pair, an editor favorite that stands out from the denim crowd with its semi-stretchy materials, bellbottom style, and paisley design; plus the Spray Bleached Denim Skirt, which gets major points in the texture department based on its woven waistband and frayed hemline.
Waste no time in securing the eye-catching, “trip down memory lane”–inducing styles that just (re)joined the Free People family. They’ve been enjoyed by someone before, yes, but you’re guaranteed to fall in love just the same: while helping promote circularity and sustainability in the fashion industry. That’s so fetch!
