When Glossier reformulated its beloved Balm Dotcom in January 2023, the reviews were mixed: The new packaging wooed many of the brand’s devotees, but the vegan formula left their lips wanting. A little over one year since, Glossier has re-launched this cult-favorite lip balm in its original formula, available to shop today at Glossier.com.
After teasing the news on Instagram May 11, Glossier officially announced Balm Dotcom’s return on May 15. Combined, these posts racked up over 100,000 likes and 3,000 comments, with fans celebrating the re-release of the top lip balm. “This moment feels equivalent to when men landed on the moon,” says one commenter.
The vegan formulation of Balm Dotcom featured emollients like castor jelly and synthetic beeswax rather than lanolin and naturally-derived beeswax, however the Glossier community was quick to comment that the new formulation would separate and didn’t provide as long-lasting moisture as the original formula. On Reddit, many of the 54,000 members in the Glossier subreddit share DIY tips to fix the issues, namely refrigerating the balms or squishing the tubes to get a smoother texture.

With this relaunch, Balm Dotcom now features lanolin and beeswax again, two ingredients that provide a protective layer on the lips to seal in moisture and prevent chapping. (It’s worth noting that this means the lip balm is no longer vegan.) While the formula is reverting to the fan-favorite version that launched in 2014, Glossier is keeping the updated packaging that launched last year: The squeezy tubes have an angled applicator tip that allows more precise application than the OG design.
As Glossier ushers in its original formulation in nine flavors, including fan-favorites like Wild Fig Balm Dotcom, Mango, and Birthday, plus the new Strawberry flavor that’s part of its permanent collection. Fans of the vegan Balm Dotcom should act fast to scoop up the flavors that are on sale for 50 percent off before they’re fully discontinued.
