Still under the influence of a beachside vacation in Greece, Martin Grant used 50 shades of blue in his spring collection.
From a light blue chambray linen jumpsuit to a tailored jacket in indigo raw denim, sky and sea hues abounded in a lineup that was designed to travel. A tentlike cotton poplin shirtdress was perfect for beating the heat, while a navy fringed minidress had “dance floor” written all over it.
Grant used stitching details to glam up his workwear-inspired separates. Indeed, the designer excels at elevated basics with a sophisticated twist, such as a featherlight inky taffeta trenchcoat that could be worn over a pair of wide-legged raw denim pants, or belted up as a chic dress.
Conversely, he dressed down his eveningwear, for instance pairing a sculptural emerald green taffeta skirt with a T-shirt. “It’s to try to make the evening thing quite cool,” Grant explained. He even suggested wearing a floor-length bubblegum pink cape with nothing but a black one-piece swimsuit underneath — you never know when you might be ready for your next swim.
