Evelyne Chétrite, Sandro’s founder and artistic director, had her work cut out for her for spring. Feeding a relentless retail cycle that demands weekly deliveries required many groups in the collection: Americana, gypsy, a karma moment, riffs on men’s shirting, track suits. How to house so many themes in one lineup? By hyping up the femininity and whimsy through ample embellishment, whether ruffles and floral prints on the gypsy styles, lace details on light blue and white stripe shirts, star patches on a denim jacket and tracksuits paired with gold booties.
“It’s more feminine-masculine than masculine-feminine,” said Chétrite. There was a trend to suit every taste, most of them hitched to big ideas from the runways. And for those who don’t buy into trends, there were plenty of cool, contemporary girl pieces — sundresses, denim, jackets — that will refresh a spring wardrobe.
This season also marked the launch of a full accessory line of handbags and shoes, a category in which Sandro had dabbled before. There were relatively subdued styles for both — a minimal black bucket bag, a suede, square-heeled boot — as well as pieces for girls who want to have fun, like sandals with flames on them.
