In a season when volumes are literally exploding, it’s not unusual to see oversize jackets and baggy pants on the catwalk. What may come as a surprise is that Lemaire, a brand usually immune to fashion fads, has jumped on the bandwagon for spring.
Christophe Lemaire and Sarah-Linh Tran are no strangers to exaggerated proportions. But the blown-up quilted blousons, demonstrative overcoats and ample printed dresses they showed this season played straight into current street fashion obsessions.
There were shades of Greek army uniforms in voluminous pleated cotton skirts, while crinkled long-sleeved dresses brought to mind Fortuny pleats. Roomy trousers — including jeans with twisted seams that curved in at the hem — underpinned many of the multilayered silhouettes.
With the exception of a trio of second-skin dancer dresses and tops, the lineup was firmly in man repeller territory. But then the duo — in tune with the fashion zeitgeist — wouldn’t have it any other way.
