Spring was a season of expansion for Flagpole designers Jaime Barker and Megan Balch. Not only did they add more ready-to-wear items into their swim-centric library, but the duo also launched athleticwear and a capsule collaboration of swimwear for Oscar de la Renta’s spring offering (not shown) that hits market appointments Friday. It’s an effort to provide customers with a one-stop shop for all their vacation and lifestyle needs.
Athletic apparel was a natural extension for the duo and it incorporated the same graphic color-blocking elements and popular silhouettes found in their swimwear, but made with a thicker version of their swim fabric for better performance and durability. A Gigi bodysuit (yes, named after the model) took on their best-selling Lynn fit and attached it to one of the duo’s favorite leggings. Aprés-gym looks included a moto-jacket style that was functional and sleek.
Swimwear and beyond-the-beach pieces came in a palette of bright juniper and watermelon. Color-blocking was used for some signature vintage-style swimsuits as well as a one-piece with graphic lines down the front that accentuates curves. Ready-to-wear looks included breezy cover-ups, jumpsuits, breathable tops and lightweight wrap pants.
