Creative director Delphine Ninous mixed the smooth with the tough for this Belstaff collection that was showcased in tableaux, complete with motorcycles — and rocky terrain. Ninous said she was inspired by the American women’s rights advocates — and daredevils — Augusta and Adeline Van Buren, who lived a century ago.
The collection was full of contrasts, including a georgette cream dress with a zip and a satin panel at the front, and a matching frill-edged blouse that Ninous paired with patched jeans. Another white cotton dress was cinched with a thick double-buckle leather belt.
The denim pieces in the collection — mostly jeans and jackets — were covered in shield-shaped patches with the old Belstaff logo, along with stars and the letter B. This season, Ninous added sneakers with similar patch details.
Outerwear was lightweight, with the brand’s short, belted Roadmaster style dotted with patches, while another, longer cotton coat was covered with an enlarged buffalo check, a bit of Americana meant to recall the Van Burens’ motorcycle journey from coast to coast as part of their feminist campaign, and efforts to help women break into the U.S. military.

Leather pieces included moto pants with whipstitching details and a load of multicolored jackets with stars running down the sides of the sleeves. Spring isn’t an easy season for this brand, which is rooted in performance outerwear, but there were some snappy staples here for life on the road.
