Go big or go home. Philipp Plein continues to invest in huge, high-tech productions to titillate the media — and fan his global business. This season, the German designer created a cyber world in which sophisticated robots played drums and the guitar to back Courtney Love, who sang live at the outset of the show. Two additional robots flanked a moving runway, handing models handbags and sunglasses.
The clothes were not so futuristic, instead referencing punk and rock ’n’ roll via a wide range of leather jackets and pants covered with studs and crystal details, as well as destroyed denim pants. These had a masculine, urban feel — a foil to the sexy attitude of long dresses with revealing cutouts.
For graphic impact, Plein chose a color palette of white and red, sometimes punctuated with metallic sequins paving dresses and suits. While rarely subtle, the collection offered strong and varied commercial options for Plein’s customers seeking bold styles crafted from high-end materials.
