Victoriana viewed through an Eighties lens: That was Mother of Pearl creative director Amy Powney’s take on spring, drawing on films and TV series set in Victorian America from her childhood in the era of mega-shoulder pads. The diverse references yielded botanical print dresses and shirts, pie-crust collars, bell sleeves, bows, paper-bag waists and fabulous frilled booties.
Floral slips with embellished sheer overlays rustled as they walked the runway, while sporty details such as striped cuffs and elastic belts made things feel contemporary rather than period.
