It’s obvious why Rihanna likes to collaborate on custom designs with Adam Selman. His line captures that combination of tomboy-street and bad girly-girl that the singer, who made a late appearance at Selman’s show, is known for. Selman played with Harumi Yamaguchi’s Eighties airbrush art, spinning nostalgia for a tacky medium into something that was cheeky and fresh, if not as strong as his last collection — or as memorable as the barely there sequinned dress Rihanna wore to the CFDA Awards. He made a nod to that look with a tight minidress fully embellished with pearls, but made sure to differentiate, showing kitschy baby T-shirts with a spilled-nail-polish print paired with slouchy linen trousers that looked like jeans, shorts trimmed with “floating” pearls and oversize tweed jackets and pajama tops.
