For spring, Wang Chen Tsai-Hsia looked to marine life for inspiration, with sometimes not-so-subtle touches: jellyfish and coral embroideries that looked cute on cropped girly jackets and oversize T-shirts cleverly layered on top of plissé skirts, giving them a sporty-chic flair. This was clearly a sign of the designer’s new strategy to attract a younger customer.
In contrast, it was unclear who Wang had in mind for a series of rather old-fashioned numbers featuring a wild print of a marine landscape in a gaudy mix of pink, blue, red and yellow. They took the spotlight away from the lineup’s quieter looks, including several delicately pleated skirts in black or white, which were paired with asymmetric, apronlike wraps softly shimmering with lovely appliqués in matching colors. They read elegance with a twist.
