Masha Ma’s dynamic, sporty-chic collection was inspired, she said, by “the remains of an urban garden, ravaged by city life,” albeit with enough “elements of beauty hidden in between the concrete.”
The densely detailed pieces, such as bomber jackets with ruched silk sleeves or ruffles on bodices (they were sewn to the bombers’ fronts), were testament to Ma’s growing design confidence, as was her choice of fabrics. For the first time, she experimented with knitwear and also created graphic patterns through contrasting textures — and it worked well. Throughout, Ma elevated her athletic and essentially urban silhouettes with fine detailing, making this collection a compelling one, both on and off the streets.
