Simon Porte Jacquemus transformed his runway into a beach scene, complete with parasols, deck chairs and the sound of waves crashing against the shore.
The designer said he imagined a girl returning from a day by the sea: her clothes loose and airy, her hair still damp, as she rushes to the local market to sell fruits and veggies — a nod to his great-grandmother who did just that. Her moniker, Claire Jacquemus, was stitched on the models’ clothing.
Bikinis flashed underneath oversize white shirts and shirt-apron hybrids fashioned in ultralight poplin. Custom 3-D knits upped the crafty factor of the designer’s signature trapeze dresses and sculptural bustier-and-skirt ensembles.
The collection as a whole looked more elaborate this season, yet maintained its naïve, girly allure.
