For the most part, Maria Cornejo took a gentle approach to spring. “Because [the world] is in such chaos right now, I wanted to do clothes that are light and naïve; feminine without being too girly,” she said. The best of her collection for Zero had exactly that fresh, airy quality. Cornejo used a soft palette of pale blue and pink for floaty asymmetric dresses. When she opted for navy, delicate layers of white and pale blue peeked from under hemlines. She moved into sportier territory with a gray men’s wear fabric that surfaced in a long, full-cut shirtdress and short jumpsuit. The only odd note, a group in scubalike foam-backed jersey, felt jarringly aggressive given the collection’s prevailing soft touch.
