Spring marked Zang Toi’s 25th year in business, so his show, appropriately enough, was called “A Privileged Life: The American Dream.”
Toi is known for dreaming big, and the runway showcased glamorous looks from beginning to end. The flamboyance ranged from a purple-and-fuchsia color-blocked knit dress with a matching purple robe to red tailored suits.
These were a nice prelude to the real showstoppers of the evening: the gowns. “American Starlet” was a black tiered dress covered in hand-beaded purple orchids. “All American Stripe,” a black-and-ivory Empire waist strapless, was met with enthusiastic applause befitting a big anniversary.
