“My mom and my aunt were dancers; I grew up around dancers,” Tracy Reese said backstage at her show about her inspiration for spring. For the first part of the show, she showed “ballerina off-duty” numbers in black and blush tones, a real departure for her. Key looks included ballet sweaters and sheer flowing skirts and blazers worn over leotards. Reese should step out of her comfort zone more often, as this part of the show was sensational. The second part of the collection showcased Reese’s trademark brilliant colors, here inspired by desert landscapes. There were cactus intarsia knits and a dahlia floral coat as well as dramatic gowns, the most noteworthy of which was a pink gossamer cloque dress. Reese’s signature of bold and happy prints are always pretty and cheerful but the real showstoppers were the ballerina looks.
