According to her show notes, Reem Acra looked at the French couturiers of the Twenties as inspiration for her spring collection. But something got lost in translation. First of all, it’s unlikely Mesdames Madeleine Vionnet or Jeanne Lanvin would have approved of the amount of skin revealed by Acra’s barely-there draped chiffon dresses in sorbet colors. The lineup also lacked cohesiveness, offering too many eveningwear options, from organza frocks that looked rigid to floral printed dresses that seemed more dated than retro. Acra was more convincing when she went for party glamour, as with a metallic embroidered gown with a fun, disco feel.
