As one of four winners of the DHL Exported contest, Italian designer Francesca Liberatore was granted the opportunity to introduce her collection at New York Fashion Week. Her spring lineup, which was mostly women’s but also showed a few men’s looks, had a very specific point of inspiration: a bird in polluted surroundings that becomes transformed by the litter it encounters.
The looks that featured bird prints and geometric shapes on a range of separates, from sheer blouses to linen skirts, were in fact the least compelling, and it was unclear whom Liberatore’s customer might be. The best pieces were more pared-down, like a sleeveless trench dress that opened the show, and a pale blush suede vest.
