Antonio Marras showed his contemporary label I’m Isola Marras on the runway for the first time — a welcome move that added a delightful touch to Milan’s first day.
The designer played on an amusing, elaborate theme for spring, channeling a Spanish-speaking globetrotter enrolling at the (fictional) University of Alghero in his Sardinian hometown. The show notes even came replete with a pencil and a quirky multiple-choice admissions test.
The clothes were indeed full of collegiate charm, especially the striped looks, as in the sequined polo shirt with a floaty cotton underlay that was shown over a full skirt, and the nautical skirt teamed with a coat in a vintage pattern that read wallpaper and captured a charming naïveté. Beret hats and the espadrille sandals added to the notion. Needless to say, this girl passed her exam.
