There was no speakeasy or psych ward this time. Instead, Dean and Dan Caten — typically prone to some “out-there” theme — approached spring by pondering essential sartorial concepts, i.e. “shapes, form, color and proportions,” the show notes stated.
It was an interesting turn for the designers, who packed the lineup with commercial pieces without forsaking their signature whimsy, the latter by way of volume and bold color.
The duo kicked off by making a graphic statement: a bold, swirly circle pattern that was colorful and nodded at Art Deco — that’s if the movement was slipped a happy pill. They used the motif on shorts and a dirndl skirt, both teamed with a crisp white crop top.
The Catens also infused several silhouettes with athletic touches, especially the white top that looked like a racer-back style in the front and was shown with a lavender ball skirt featuring a sporty green stripe on the side.
