Making special things look simple requires a talent Paula Gerbase has in spades.
The designer used the tailoring skills she acquired on Savile Row to turn out an effortlessly chic spring collection that was as luxurious as it was minimal. Inspired by serigraphs on paper that artist Agnes Martin realized in the Seventies, the designer applied graphic elements to her clean-lined garments.
These included lightweight, geometric tops and culottes; wide-legged jumpsuits, and tailored suits with slightly oversize blazers. Their subtle, masculine allure was balanced with more feminine, yet rigorous styles, such as shift dresses with deconstructed lapels and pleated skirts in overlapping panels in Martin’s beloved grid patterns.
