There’s something really wonderful about lounging around in towel long after stepping out of the shower, being tucked into crisp cotton sheets, or hanging out at grandma’s house. Those domestic comforts are what designer Talia Lipkin-Connor referenced for her brand, Talia Byre, this season, titling her collection “Real Estate.”
“The start of this season was about texture and interiors, the idea of the home, and really playing into Deborah Levy’s novel ‘Real Estate,’” Lipkin-Connor explained backstage after the show.
Perhaps in a nod to Levy’s third memoir, which explored women’s relationship to the home, Lipkin-Connor subverted traditionally conservative womenswear. Cue cotton dresses resembling stiff aprons from the front and slinky, backless dresses from behind; flouncy skirts made in PVC, and crisp poplin shirting.

“We often reference [Levy’s] books,” Lipkin-Connor said. “I was reading her book when I started developing the apron dresses. It was all about the home, what your version of real estate is, and for us, that’s our collections. It’s our property and our investment.”
She also included more masculine silhouettes that referenced interiors.
Fuzzy bathroom towels with paisley patterns were reimagined as boxy dresses and long-sleeve polos. Breezy bombers, wide-leg pants and softly pleated skirts were printed with psychedelic florals, referencing William Morris prints often found in British decor.
But the centerpiece of the collection was arguably the Talia Byre-designed Uggs. After all, what better shoes to curl up at home with? Those cozy and chic styles — which came as chunky boots, ballet flats and clogs — may be relegated to the runway for now, but here’s hoping they’ll be available to purchase soon.
