Most people know “Blue Is the Warmest Color.” But thanks to designer Joshua Ewusie, it could be spring’s hottest color.
Models strutted down a turquoise stage at Ewusie’s debut collection. A slinky backless dress, detailing on a windbreaker and matching skirt, and the brand’s “Welcome to Lewisham” T-shirt all came in a similar shade of blue.
On a chilly and gray London morning, there was nothing quite as tantalizing as that hue, which screamed of summer, sea and blue skies.
“It took loads of time to get the right shade — we wanted it to pop out,” Ewusie explained backstage. “It was very specific, referencing that DLR blue.”

For those that don’t reside in the U.K., the DLR, or Docklands Light Railway, is a metro system in the British capital. It’s a cool and relatable reference point that connects to the Ewusie woman, whom the designer’s spent the past year homing in on, as he told WWD in a preview.
She’s a hardworking, stylish woman on the go — so it makes sense that she’d wear something that winked to her daily form of transport.
A sensational peach dress also featured beading in the shade, which the designer upcycled from a vintage jacket.
“I want to continue playing with giving existing pieces new life, because I really feel like that’s what my woman does. She takes things from her parents, her grandmother, and wears it how she wants to wear it,” he said.
Aside from his color sense, Ewusie showed off his leather craftsmanship. The collection featured tough, sexy pieces made of the stuff. But the standouts were the woven leather handbags and belts, which the designer said will soon be available to purchase.
