Latex — paired with soft muslin — formed the core of Phoebe English’s small, elegant resort collection, and despite the unconventional combination it all hung together. The designer worked pale pink or black latex into pencil skirts and boxy T-shirts that were matte rather than shiny.
She also used the rubber for thick borders on cropped muslin tops and for decorative panels on skirts. Latex-free designs came in the form of wide muslin drawstring trousers, sober black shirt dresses and skirts made from black netting. London-based English is known for her conceptual collections and, while still edgy, this outing was more commercial than past efforts.
