Karen Walker channeled a prairie vibe for pre-fall, decking out her lineup with ruffles, gingham and baroque prints and prim Victorian silhouettes. A bare-shouldered ruffled dress in micro floral-printed silk georgette felt effortlessly sensual, thanks to a cutaway hemline that showed off the leg, and a few standout tops featured elements of layering, as in a gingham button-down with an off-the-shoulder ruffled blouse sewn on top.
Tempering the collection’s girlish frills was a more tomboyish Western vibe, seen in cowgirl shirting with embroidered yokes and trousers in brushed cotton drill. In her press notes, Walker noted that her imagined prairie girls weren’t roaming Midwestern grasslands on horses but rather atop unicorns. The mythical creature was printed on a cotton muslin jacket and embroidered on a dark denim rodeo shirt.
