Maiyet’s creative director Declan Kearney was in a state of wanderlust for pre-fall. “I didn’t have time for a beach day this year, so I wanted to extend the summer a bit,” he explained. Drawing from surf culture as well as the modernist, Space Age-y architecture of John Lautner, Kearney infused his lineup with a sporty spirit and a hint of California cool. Take, for example, series of dresses with rounded hemlines — a silhouette carried over from Maiyet’s spring collection — featuring abstract wave motifs via sequins, shredded chiffon and hand-stitched embroidery. Elsewhere, a zipper dress riffed on a wet suit. All of it succeeded in being chic and versatile, with the artisanal touch for which the brand is known.
