With handcrafted details and global sourcing as her touchstones, Ulla Johnson masterfully balanced her signature boho spirit with boyish, utilitarian pieces for pre-fall, grouping them into a series of vignettes. In a palette of navy, white and burgundy, she worked in romantic details — hand-stitched embroidery, miniature floral and ikat prints, fringe and lace — on her lineup of silk georgette peasant blouses, knits and crisp poplin shirts. Denim, introduced last spring, came in a Seventies-flared jean and a military-inspired jumpsuit with raw edges. “As groovy as it is, it’s also very urban-based,” Johnson said.
