The new Whitney Museum, scheduled to open by the High Line in May, set the overall tone for Elie Tahari’s pre-fall showing, but rather than go for the expected (i.e., sartorial riffs on American art), the designer subtly channeled the theme via the Renzo Piano-designed building itself. It appears to have several facade styles in one structure, and so he worked a number of distinct elements into each piece. Case in point: the distressed leather vest featuring cuts across the front and a mesh back, which was shown with a laser-cut Neoprene skirt with an abstract print. Like the rest of the collection, the look will easily work its way into the wardrobes of loyal Tahari customers.
