Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters called their beautiful pre-fall collection “Space Is the Place,” though the title was slightly misleading. The Creatures of the Wind duo avoided sartorial clichés that such a theme suggests — i.e., retrofuturism, metallics and styles that look as if they just plopped down from the moon — and instead, delivered clothes that were at once polished and interesting.
“We were looking at late Fifties, early Sixties Italian industrial design and the pre-psychedelic age,” Gabier said. The designers channeled this with ample chic and range, from the languid silk and nylon jacquard dress that’s woven with wool patches — think tapestry — to the elegant silk and Lurex jacquard coat accented by a white fox stole and shown with a sleeveless stretch-linen turtleneck and cotton eyelet skirt. Sophisticated, and definitely intended for planet Earth.
