Virgil Abloh is making the shift into tailoring. “This season for me is really the first opportunity to tackle a more formal men’s wear concept,” he said, adding the confidence gleaned from having been a finalist for the recent LVMH Prize helped him make the leap.
Off-White’s spring collection, called Blue Collar, had a boss and worker theme. Mining flea markets in London, Abloh found old Royal Mail uniforms (including from DHL) and remade them. So there are suiting, dress shirts and formal outerwear with pieces of mail uniforms layered on top like a collage.
“I’m paying attention to what I believe is a stronger men’s silhouette, which is a baggier trouser and short but still tailored,” he continued.
