For their spring effort, Tom Notte and Bart Vandebosch said they were inspired by movies including “Point Break,” as well as by the Californian surf culture mixed with an urban feel. But while they filled their collection with athletic, sporty references — including mesh bombers, bonded Neoprene tops and tight pants recalling surf bodysuits — the lineup lacked the upbeat, airy vibe traditionally associated with surfer chic. Their sharp, tailored suits in graphic prints also missed the mark.
