“Harmonious chaos,” is how Andrea Pompilio described his spring lineup.
To mark the fifth anniversary of his brand, the designer mixed and matched what have become his signature elements: horizontal stripes, checks and colors. The mélange was at times overwhelming: cue a floral-print pair of silk track pants in marine blue worn with a wildly striped black and brown cotton blazer and a knee-length silk scarf in yet another color.
And, yes, there were some déjà vu moments that naturally came with the occasion, but overall, the collection intrigued with its youthful appeal. Silk burgundy boxers and sleeveless knitted shirts in bright yellow were fun and versatile, as were the baggy anoraks, somewhat invoking a man who doesn’t want to grow up. A recurring slogan — “Love me forever or never” — was written across the backs of silky varsity jackets, sleeveless retro shirts and tank tops, feeding further into the collection’s cute naiveté.
“Doesn’t everybody want to be loved forever or never?” Pompilio mused backstage.
