After sending out kitschy Seventies looks for fall, Topman Design continued its nostalgia trip for spring, this time mining the look of the English Northern Soul dance scene, which also hit its peak in that decade. The label’s design team gleefully pushed that look to extremes, throwing in a dash of Eighties-influenced sportswear for good measure.
Models wore the high-waist, wide-leg pants that were a signature of the movement, paired with tank tops patched with embroidered badges. Pants came in colors that ran from muted pink, khaki and denim to bold “Beetlejuice” stripes. Eighties influences came through in skinny nylon pants with side stripes, leather bomber jackets – including one in hot pink – and shiny Windbreakers in panels of blue, turquoise and gray.
