GQ China presented Sean Suen’s spring 2016 collection at London Collections: Men, with the Beijing-based designer saying that he wanted to combine the “masculinity and structure of the European suit…with the elegance of the Chinese robe.” That translated into loose, languid silhouettes in heritage men’s wear fabrics. A tabard-style top was done in a silk fabric in a ticking print, paired with loosely tailored pinstripe pants, while a tank top and shorts combo came in a red houndstooth fabric. Those looks worked better than Suen’s stiffer experiments, such as a heavy vest in navy and copper jacquard stripes. At its best, the collection gave a youthful jolt to the codes of old-school men’s wear.
