Mark Thomas, who designs Joseph’s men’s line under creative director Louise Trotter, said he’d looked to “stripped-back” Nineties photography and Nineties sportswear for the label’s spring collection. The decade had particular relevance, Thomas said, as it marked the Joseph brand gaining prominence with its minimal, modern approach to fashion.
The collection made a feature of technical-looking, sports-influenced pieces in luxe fabrics. Consider an anorak in double-faced cashmere in shades of gray or camel, or sleek track pants done in beet-colored leather, or a rich navy viscose. Thomas contrasted those sporty pieces with soft, laid-back tailoring, such as a double-faced beet cashmere coat worn over a pink and peach check rain jacket, or a gray suit woven in a mélange gray cotton, worn with walking sandals.

The collection mined similar themes to Joseph’s women’s resort collection, with Trotter citing an “ease of dressing, that naturalness.”
