The British brand that built its name on moto-inspired outerwear, left the open road behind and braved the desert dunes, showing off a handsome collection with a vintage military feel and strong whiff of “The English Patient.”
Frederik Dyhr, chief creative officer, said he had the British Army’s World War II Desert Rats in mind, which explains the charmingly weather-beaten oiled suede and leather vests, capes and field jackets; skinny, sand-colored trousers with patch pockets, and crinkly army green Bermuda shorts.
The designer spread an abstract desert-map print over waxed cotton parkas and jackets, and gave knits some heft with waffle and honeycomb weaves for a lineup that remained true to Belstaff’s reputation for stylish apparel that also performs.
