Designer Olivier Rousteing said he wanted to infuse the biker and military silhouettes that have become Balmain’s calling card with “a more tailored feeling.” To capture that mood, a zippered biker jacket was done in black wool with silk lapels, while low-slung, pleated cotton pants in khaki and black had zippered pockets at the hips. Rousteing also looked to Fifties Havana for a color palette of sun-bleached cream, safari green and deep brown. The region’s materials provided inspiration, too, as the designer turned out showpiece jackets painstakingly woven in different shades of wicker.
