UNX continued to offer a natty, more formal take on the ath-leisure movement in its third collection.
Designer Hedi El Chikh cut his teeth working for Azzedine Alaïa for five years, and seems to have brought some of the couturier’s focus on fine tailoring to his sporty new label. El Chikh said he also looked to sportswear pioneers of the Twenties like Jean Patou for inspiration, as well as the structured construction of the Fifties.
UNX targets women who prefer a more dressed-up look but who want to get in on the comfort and easy movement of the ath-leisure trend. Cue zippered sleeveless numbers and silky jogging pants rendered in sleek cuts and luxurious materials. UNX added some appealing outerwear pieces — the kimono-style cut on a belted navy peacoat nailed the balance of sporty and chic the brand is going for — while two-tone pastel looks and ruffled details on trousers did not make a convincing case that their vintage inspirations are at home in 2017.
