As it turns out, Creatures of Comfort’s creative director Jade Lai isn’t much of a camper. “I’d been wanting to spend more time outdoors, especially after moving from California to New York,” she said. “But I need to have my daily luxuries.”
Lai designed her fall collection around the idea of “glamping” — that is, a luxurious take on wilderness survivalism — with a juxtaposition of utilitarian and sumptuous, snazzy fabrics. In the latter category, there were lush velvet maxidresses with romantic blouson sleeves, hot pink Lurex knits, shimmering jacquard jumpsuits and double-faced cashmere wrap jackets. Few pieces here — save for a chocolate shearling coat and a roomy, ripstop jumpsuit — were suitable for a romp in the woods. But hey, camping’s not for everyone.
