Creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli presented a pretty Red Valentino collection for fall, one that felt decidedly less girly and sugar-coated than previous efforts. The lineup was still very feminine and infused with a touch of romanticism, but it also had an urban, contemporary attitude that made it appealing for a wider audience.
The designers reworked a maritime theme, evident in an array of peacoats — crafted from both shearling and felt embellished with patches — as well as in striped sweaters worn with flared pants with gold buttons, and in a covetable padded yellow leather sailing jacket.
The inspiration was also expressed in a more glamorous way via jellyfish and sirens embroidered on a denim skirt and on a tulle maxidress, while a graphic jacquard pattern of fish peppered a cropped sweater and coordinating knit shorts.
