Peggy Guggenheim fueled Peter Jensen’s imagination for fall, yielding a collection with embellishments influenced by the colored mobiles of Alexander Calder.
Styled to look like the eccentric art collector in her later years, with smudged red lipstick and curly, slept-in hair, models wore looks including a corduroy skirt suit, a color-blocked dress with little ruffled pockets, and a leopard-print coat made from a blend of cotton and wool.
Smocklike black crepe dresses and coats had big blue, yellow and red paint splotches on them, while jersey tops came embroidered with designs resembling Calder’s mobiles.
This season, Jensen also worked with the jewelry designer Rebecca Hulbert on a small collection — mainly gold and pearl designs – inspired by Calder’s mobiles. Earrings dangled delicately from models’ lobes during the show, which was lighthearted and packed with wearable silhouettes.
